2004 Senate

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

John J. Miller has an analysis of key Senate races in 2004. His analysis draws many of the same conclusions that mine does.

Dean as Front-runner

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Deborah Orin says that Howard Dean now has all the qualities of a front-runner among the “nine dwarfs.” And Cal Thomas says that Democrats are followingtheir liberal instincts right off a cliff. Go, Dean, go!

The Democratic Disadvantage

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Will Leitch sums up the fundraising disadvantage for Democratic presidential candidates:

When the McCain-Feingold campaign finance billwas up for debate, it gathered far more support from Democrats than Republicans. But it’s the Democratic Party that will suffer most from the new law, which eliminated soft money, a Democratic specialty. In the last two federal elections, Republicans candidates have out-raised Democrats ones in hard money – individual contributions up to $2,000, $4,000 from couples – nearly 2 to 1. And then there is the matching funds issue. After Jan. 1, 2004, every penny a candidate has raised is matched by the federal government, up to $44 million. This has two conditions. First, a candidate, if he/she is to accept public funds, must limit personal spending to $50,000; go over that, and you lose access to the matching funds. And, perhaps even more restricting, each candidate will be allowed to only spend $44 million until the July nominating convention. In a crowded race, that money could be spent by mid-March. That’s four months running on fumes. In the past, the Democratic party could help to pick up the slack

The Godless Democratic Party

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Democratic senators continue to display their bigotry against people of faith by refusing to let the president’s pro-life judicial nominees even come to a vote. Faced with GOP charges that they’re discriminating against people of faith - especially Catholics - Democrats are howling that Republicans are practicing “religious McCarthyism.”

That’s the height of irony.

If anyone is practicing “religious McCarthyism” it is Democratic senators who refuse to allow judicial nominees with deep religious beliefs to even receive a vote on the Senate floor.

Some Democratic Senators, like Patrick Leahy, claim that they’re Catholic too and that it’s not reasonable to accuse them of anti-Catholic bigotry. That’s a sham argument. Pat Leahy may have been born a Catholic; but, like most Senate Democrats, he has long since abandoned his religion in all but name.

The true religion of Godless Senate Democrats today is the Democratic party. Their only animating belief is the unfettered murder of unborn babies. And all people of faith who do not share that view are condemned to never become federal judges - even if they separate their personal religious beliefs from their judicial rulings.

Nethercutt to Challenge Murray

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

Speaker-slaying Congressman George Nethercutt (R-WA) has decided to challenge Senator Patty Murray (D-WA).I give the edge to Murray in this race; but Nethercutt can make her life very miserable. Also, the Bush campaign will probably target Washington state in 2004, thereby helping Nethercutt in his Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) efforts. My full 2004 Senate analysis is here.

Aren’t They Just the Cutest?

From The Onion: “Adorable Democratic Candidate Actually Believes He Has a Chance”

Is Davis Finished?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

James Taranto on the Gray Davis recall:

Back in March, we noted that a poll had found “an unnamed Democrat would edge out President Bush.” The problem, of course, is that in “an unnamed Democrat” can’t actually run in a presidential race. Instead of their ideal or preferred choices, voters next November will have to choose between the incumbent and one of the actual guys now running–all of whom were losing to Bush in that same poll.

But the California recall actually does pit Davis against an unnamed candidate. And Davis is a lot more unpopular than Bush. Party loyalty may be enough to persuade most registered Democrats to vote for the governor–but that’ll still leave him well below the 50% threshold. For this reason, we’d be very surprised to see Davis survive.

The Lying Media

The lying socialist treasonous liberal Old York Times is lying again.

Volunteer!

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

Do you want John Kerry or Howard Dean to become president? Do you want them to raise your taxes, appease terrorists, nationalize health care, torment businesses and stack the courts with ultra-liberal activists?

Volunteer for the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign by clicking this link. Volunteering is easy and you can contribute in a variety of ways, depending on what’s convenient for you.

You, yes, you can make a difference! If 537 voters had voted differently in 2000, Al Gore would be president today. 537 votes could have been switched by a single dedicated volunteer. In 2004, that volunteer could be you. If you live in a swing state - Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin - you may singlehandedly decide the presidency of the United States. Volunteer today! And ask all your friends to volunteer too.

Unions and other liberal interest groups will devote vast resources to beating Republicans at the ground game in 2004. The Bush-Cheney campaign intends to fight back with an unprecedented counter-attack; but they need your help. Without conservative grassroots volunteers to stop them, liberal candidates will get elected to offices up and down the ballot and do their best to tear away at the very fabric of our country. It is your patriotic duty to volunteer today and stop liberals from destroying the very soul of our nation.

The Gender Gap

Tuesday, July 29th, 2003

There is a “gender gap” and it ain’t helping Democrats:

Dramatic erosion in support among white men has left the Democrats in a highly vulnerable position and unless the party strongly repositions itself, President Bush will be virtually impossible to beat in 2004, according to a new poll commissioned for the centrist Democratic Leadership Council (DLC).

[Pollster Mark] Penn said Democrats must make a concerted effort to appeal to white voters, particularly men and married women, to make the 2004 race competitive. He said just 22 percent of white men identified with the Democratic Party in his poll, and he said younger men are even more strongly Republican in their leanings.
