Report Card Time!!!

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

Time for my report card. Oh…Oh…..

Well, how did my first week go?

Please feel free to e mail or comment in the threads. If you send an e mail, and you have not sent an e mail before, make sure the subject line says something so I do not think it is spam. I have been getting a lot of spam on my fastmail account. Well, it is either spam or I really do have lots of lost relatives from Asia and Africa that want to cut me in on family business deals.

UPDATE: OK, this thread has been viewed by almost 900 visitors in THREE hours and there are 12 grades, two long lost relative comments and something about slim fast.

Michigan Politics or Simply a Good Idea?

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

The Detroit News reports that the Michigan House is considering a bill to require that citizenship be listed on a drivers license.

“Lawmakers are preparing for a post-Memorial Day battle over controversial legislation that would require a person’s citizenship to be disclosed on his or her driver’s license.”

Jennifer Granholm will have to think about that one.

Michigan 2006 Election

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

The economic conditions in Michigan continue to get worse each month increasing the probability that Dick Devos will be the next Governor.

During the 2004 Debates John Kerry had the following to say about the national economy.

“Now, the president has presided over an economy where we’ve lost 1.6 million jobs. The first president in 72 years to lose jobs. “

I wonder what he would say about Jennifer Granholms “stewardship” of the economy in Michigan?

One Good Item in the Bill

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

Those living along the Canadian and Mexican border know that a valid passport will soon be required to return to the United States instead of just your drivers license and a birth certificate. I found the following buried deep within the last minute “managers amendment.”

“Passport Cards.–
(1) AUTHORITY TO ISSUE.–In order to facilitate travel of United States citizens to
Canada, Mexico, the countries located in the Caribbean, and Bermuda, the Secretary of
State, in consultation with the Secretary, is authorized to develop a travel document
known as a Passport Card.
(2) ISSUANCE.–In accordance with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative carried
out pursuant to section 7209 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of
2004 (Public Law 108-458; 8 U.S.C. 1185 note), the Secretary of State, in consultation
with the Secretary, shall be authorized to issue to a citizen of the United States who
submits an application in accordance with paragraph (5) a travel document that will
serve as a Passport Card.
(3) APPLICABILITY.–A Passport Card shall be deemed to be a United States
passport for the purpose of United States laws and regulations relating to United States
passports.
(4) VALIDITY.–A Passport Card shall be valid for the same period as a United States
passport.
(5) LIMITATION ON USE.–A Passport Card may only be used for the purpose ofinternational travel by United States citizens through land and sea ports of entry
between–
(A) the United States and Canada;
(B) the United States and Mexico; and
